This inspection and testing 2391 course is delivered over four days, with a fith consecutive day available for further assessment and extra development when desired.
This is a course for practising electricians who either require an update, or have carried out very little inspection and testing work since qualifying.
A selection of appropriate test equipment is available at the centre; however, you can bring your own if accuracy verified.
What the course covers
We start by splitting the field of inspection and testing in two:
- Initial Verification
- Periodic Inspection and testing
These are two very different types of work and it is very important to develop a clear distinction between them — it makes things a lot simpler.
For initial verification, we will refer to the inspection requirements of BS 7671 and determine how to carry these inspections out with minimal disruption to the installation’s construction, before exploring the sequence of tests and identifying why certain tests must be carried out before others. Then, we will look at the certification of installations whether using an Electrical Installation Certificate or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.
For periodic inspection, we will identify the reasons why periodic inspection and testing may be the most suitable means for a client to comply with legislation. Then, we will identify the risks and limitations with inspection and testing existing electrical installations that are already in-service. We will also need to identify how best to apply our engineering judgement when completing an Electrical Installation Condition Report and submitting observation codes.
It is strongly recommended that you understand the latest edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, as our inspection and testing must be carried out in accordance with them. Much of this course also assesses your understanding of the IET wiring regulations — if you need to update on them, then we have classroom and online training options available.

Note: this is a theory-based course which includes practical assessment. This course does NOT train you how to inspect and test; therefore, there is no practical training provided. Test instruments and practical demonstrations are still included.
This is a CPD course for experienced electricians — if you need introductory training on inspection and testing, then the City and Guilds 2392-10 is recommended.
You must be at least 18 years of age to enroll for this course.
